Ecommerce SEO

Ecommerce SEO is a structure problem before it is a content problem. Most stores do not lack pages — they have thousands, and Google cannot tell which of them matters.

Why a store is not a bigger brochure site

A twelve-page business site has twelve decisions to get right. A store generates URLs on its own: every filter combination, every sort order, every out-of-stock variant. A mid-sized catalogue with colour, size and price filters can produce tens of thousands of crawlable URLs from a few hundred real products, and crawl budget gets spent on combinations nobody searches for. That failure mode does not exist on a brochure site, which is why the work is genuinely different rather than just larger.

What Ecommerce SEO covers

Faceted navigation

Deciding which filter combinations deserve an indexable URL and which get blocked — the single biggest technical lever on most stores.

Category page cannibalisation

Stopping three near-identical category pages from splitting the ranking for one query between them.

Product pages at scale

Manufacturer descriptions are on every competitor selling the same item. Templates and priority rules for which products earn original copy first.

Out-of-stock and discontinued URLs

A policy for what happens to a ranking page when the product goes — keeping, redirecting or retiring it, rather than letting it 404 silently.

Product schema

Price, availability and review markup so listings earn the rich result rather than a plain blue link.

Shopify and WooCommerce specifics

Shopify's forced /collections/ and /products/ URL patterns, and WooCommerce's permalink and pagination defaults. Both need handling on their own terms.

What you end up with

  • A crawl showing exactly how many URLs your filters are generating
  • An indexation policy for facets, pagination and out-of-stock pages
  • A prioritised category and product list ranked by revenue, not by traffic
  • Product schema implemented and validated

Frequently asked questions

Do you do Shopify SEO?

Yes, and Shopify has constraints worth knowing about — you cannot change the /collections/ and /products/ URL structure, and the same product living under several collections creates duplicate paths by default. We work within those rather than pretending the platform is neutral.

Do you do WooCommerce and WordPress store SEO?

Yes. WooCommerce gives more URL control than Shopify but defaults badly — product permalinks, attribute archives and pagination all generate indexable pages that usually should not be. Most of the early work is deciding what Google should never see.

How is ecommerce SEO priced?

By catalogue size and platform rather than by page, because the work scales with how many URLs your store generates, not how many products you sell. A 200-product store with four filters can be more work than a 2,000-product store with none.

Will you rewrite all my product descriptions?

No, and you should be sceptical of anyone who says yes. We rank products by revenue and rewrite from the top down, then use structured templates for the tail. Original copy on your best 50 products beats thin copy on all 2,000.

Can you help with Amazon listings too?

Amazon is a separate search engine with its own ranking rules, and we focus on Google. We will tell you where the two overlap — product titles and attributes especially — but we do not sell Amazon listing optimisation as a service.
