BLOG MATRIX / RAJKOT

SEO for Rajkot businesses.
The results are not full of your rivals.

One of the more useful corrections we can offer is about who you are actually competing with online, because it is usually not the firms you have in mind. This page starts there and then covers three things that decide whether search is worth your effort at all.

Discuss your Rajkot business

Your competitors in search are not the businesses you compete with

We can demonstrate this using our own market. Looking at who ranks across the Indian searches in our research, more than a thousand different websites appear. The ones showing up most often are not rival agencies at all. They are a search engine’s own documentation, the software companies selling analysis tools, publishers who write about the subject, and discussion forums. Something close to a quarter of all appearances belong to directories, marketplaces, platforms and publications rather than firms doing the work.

The same is true in most industries. Search for what you make and you will find comparison sites, marketplaces, trade directories, a manufacturer’s own catalogue, a forum thread and possibly an encyclopedia entry, before you find a business like yours. That changes the plan. Some of those positions you cannot take and should not try to; what you can sometimes do is appear on them instead. Knowing which results are winnable and which merely look like competition saves a great deal of money.

If your site is on a website builder, some things are simply not available

Plenty of smaller businesses run on hosted builders, and there is nothing wrong with that. It is worth knowing the boundaries before somebody recommends changes the platform will not permit.

What is usually fine: page titles and descriptions, headings, content, images, internal links, and a business listing. What is often restricted: the structure of web addresses, redirects when a page moves, server response headers, some technical markup, and control over how much code loads on each page. None of that is fatal for a local business, and a well-run builder site can compete perfectly well in an ordinary local market. It matters more as a catalogue grows or when a technical problem needs a fix the platform will not expose. The right time to find out is before an engagement, not when a recommendation arrives and cannot be implemented.

Search should not be your only channel

An uncomfortable thing for a search practice to write, but a business that depends on one channel is fragile regardless of which channel it is. Results move, a competitor invests, a platform changes what it shows, and a business with nothing else arrives at a bad quarter with no alternatives.

The sensible position is that search should be one reliable source of enquiries among several. Referrals and repeat custom usually remain the most valuable and the most ignored. Trade bodies, exhibitions, marketplaces, a mailing list of past customers, and simply being known locally all contribute. If search brings you a third of your work and other things bring the rest, you are in a much stronger position than a business that gets everything from one place, even if that place is currently generous. We would rather say this than sell you a dependency.

How many pages does a small business actually need

Fewer than most people assume, and better ones. The instinct is that more pages mean more chances to be found, which leads to thin pages covering slight variations of the same thing, all competing with each other.

A workable rule for a service business: one page for each thing somebody would search for separately and could buy on its own, plus the ordinary pages about you and how to make contact. If two proposed pages would answer the same question, they are one page. If a page would exist only to contain a phrase, it should not exist. Where you genuinely serve distinct places or distinct customer types, those can justify separate pages provided each says something different and true. A site of eight good pages generally beats one of forty weak ones, and it is considerably cheaper to keep accurate. That restraint is most of what small business SEO amounts to.

What we would establish first

Whether the results you want are occupied by businesses like yours or by platforms and publishers, because that single answer decides whether the work is realistic and what shape it takes. It takes one search and ten minutes.

Our position, unchanged from every other city: based in Chandigarh, no Rajkot address and therefore no claim on the local map listings, research covering India generally rather than your market, and search work only. If it turns out your best route is appearing on a marketplace rather than outranking one, we will say so even though it is not work we would be doing.

QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

A few practical details.

The businesses ranking above us are not our real competitors. Why?

Because search competitors and commercial competitors are different sets. Directories, marketplaces and national sites occupy the results without competing for your customers. Knowing which is which decides whether the term is winnable.

Our site is on a website builder. Is that a problem?

Sometimes. Many builders are fine; some make redirects, structured markup or page speed genuinely difficult. The honest answer comes from checking what yours allows before promising anything that depends on it.

Should search be our only marketing channel?

No. Search captures existing demand, and a business that depends entirely on it is exposed to a single algorithm. It works best alongside something that creates demand rather than waiting for it.

How many pages does a small business actually need?

Fewer than most are sold. A page for each thing you genuinely offer, the places you truly serve, and the questions buyers ask. Beyond that you are creating maintenance.
